Practicing building arrays with dice

Array Scavenger Hunt

In our classroom we take two different types of timed tests.
MBSP (Monitoring Basic Skills Progress)
Within MBSP (done once a week) there are two different types; computation (facts) and application (variety of problems).
The fact timed test (as pictured) is given for 2 minutes. Most students complete the test within that time and are then encouraged to check their answers. Within the application test students are given 8 minutes to complete the test. The problems covered in the application portion are not always things that have been taught in class yet, however they are a good pre-assessment for you and I to see where we need to grow.
Application 8 minute

Computation 2 minute

MMF (Mastering Math Facts) or Rocket Math
MMF is a ONE minute timed test completed almost daily. The kids progress through their rocket (a goal setting paper) to keep track of how they are progress through the levels, marked A-Z. Here, students focus on achieving his/her goal. For example, if Mathew's goal is 32, then he needs to get 32 right in order to move onto the next level. As their skills increase, their goal increases too. The test is broken into two parts; the top part is practice, bottom is the test.

There are many different ways to solve math problems. Below are student work samples from this week.

Math Assignment: Place Value- this should be a review

Tuesday, February 4th students had a scavenger hunt around the room. They had to measure six different strips of paper using materials around the room. Then with a partner they had to list all of the things around the room that matched the length of the strip of paper.

Information about timed tests:
If you would like to practice additional timed tests at home I encourage you to link up to the Super Kids site: Super Kids Or I can print practice sheets for you as well.

Everyone should have received their IXL log in Monday, Sep. 9th. If you have not please let me know as soon as possible. How is IXL going? I get reports each night so I know a lot of you are practicing each night! Don't forget you can also count your IXL, and/or Sum Dog math fact time on your connect-four board!

I have registered all of the children with SumDog! On Tuesday (9/3) we will staple the username and password to the front page of the agenda book. You can use the time on SumDog as your "practicing math facts" homework, or for additional math practice. Please let me know if you have any trouble logging on with SumDog.

Try some of these simple math related activities at home this quarter!
