Tech Fun Run

The Tech Fun Run is this Friday at 6:00pm. Registration begins at 5:00pm. If you would like to volunteer with set-up or tear down, your presence is greatly appreciated. Some of your kiddos received a glow-in-the-dark Brag Tag for raising funds for the event! (All money raised goes directly to technology here at SRE.) PTO is giving out these Brag Tags for ANY dollar amount raised. As of yesterday our classroom has over $450 raised (the most in the school)! Thank you for supporting this fundraiser!

Coins for Cancer

Our school is still collecting Coins for Cancer this month. If you have any small amount of spare change please send it in. Last year, Summit Road was able to raise a couple hundred dollars for this cause, so far this year we (as a school) have about $80. Every penny, nickel, dime counts! Thanks for your support!

Here is the box outside of our classroom.

Landfill in a Bottle

Thank you for the plastic 2-liter bottles! Each second grade class was able to create 5 landfill in a bottles! Here is what you helped us create!

The measurements of each bottle are recorded each morning.

"Garbage juice" at its finest.

Carrots take a long time to decompose!
Thank you for the soda bottles!

STEM Challenge Update

Thank you for the influx of STEM challenge submissions already! They look marvelous! I am very excited to hear all about them next week. As the students finish their project, please email it to me, or send it in, and I will keep them safe. Some students took home their flash drives today in case they needed to transfer their STEM challenge digital files. Let me know if you need anything for the challenge or in general. I'm here to help!

Until next time,
Miss R.

Second Grade Wish Tree

This is our second grade wish tree! Throughout the year second grade teachers will be adding various leaves to our wish tree labeled with different materials we will need. If you are volunteering and see something on the tree you can get for one class, just take the leaf. I will be including a short section in our weekly newsletter specific to our classroom. Currently on the tree you will see, child-size socks, Command hooks (large and small), 2-Liter bottles, and pipe cleaners. At any time if you can provide any of these items just send them in with your kiddo!

Until next time,
Miss Ratcliff

On September 20th at 6pm we will be celebrating our 3K Tech Fun Run here at Summit Road! The goal is to raise $25 per child. Please turn in all money raised by September 13th. Investigations Resource Book

Greetings Parents!

Today your child will be bringing home an Investigations Resource book. This is not a work book but it is meant to provide additional support at home for our math curriculum. Inside each book is a sheet that explains a little more about the book. I have already recorded book numbers and which student they belong to so I do not need the sheet back. Please keep it in a safe place at home.

Collaborating about Conservation

On Friday afternoon (8/30), we got together with the other second grade classes to compile our garbology data. Click the Fusion tab for more pictures.
The students were blown away by the amount of trash that is collect just in ONE lunch period in ONE school.
Here is a clip of Mrs. Patterson collecting some ideas from the students on how we could reduce these numbers in our school.
